Announcements

I AM HAPPY AND EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT I WILL BE TEACHING 2ND GRADE AND
MOVING TO PORTABLE B NEXT SCHOOL YEAR! I LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH THE
SECOND GRADE TEAM AND SECOND GRADE STUDENTS.

ATTENDANCE IS VERY IMPORTANT!

SCHOOL BEGINS AT 8:00 SHARP! 2ND GRADE STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED AT 2:15
MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY AND AT 12:30 EACH FRIDAY. ON TEACHER LEARNING DAYS
(TLD) STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED AT 12:30 AS WELL. (PLEASE SEE CALENDAR
PAGES FOR TLDS) PLEASE BE SURE YOUR CHILD ARRIVES NO EARLIER THAN 7:45 EACH
DAY. (THERE ISN'T ANYONE TO MONITOR YOUR CHILD BEFORE THAT AND WE DON'T
CONSIDER IT SAFE UNTIL THERE IS SOMEONE ON DUTY.) ARRIVING AT 7:45 WILL GIVE
STUDENTS THAT NEED TO EAT BREAKFAST AT SCHOOL TIME TO EAT, GO TO THE
RESTROOM, DRINK SOME WATER, AND CHAT WITH FRIENDS BEFORE SCHOOL BEGINS EACH
CHILD NEEDS TO BE IN LINE READY TO LISTEN AND LEARN NO LATER THAN 8:00.

Each Wednesday students will bring their Bobcat Folders home. It is very
important that the papers in the Bobcat folder are read by parents or
guardians. The Bobcat Folder, must be signed on the back and returned by
Thursday, along with other papers that may require signatures. If your
child looses the Bobcat Folder, another one must be obtained in the office
for $0.50. Thank you for attention in this matter.

THE CALENDAR PAGES ARE SET WITH THE HOLIDAYS FOR 2008 THROUGH JUNE 17,
2009. PLEASE SCHEDULE YOUR CHILD'S APPOINTMENTS, VACATIONS, AND OTHER
REASONS TO BE AWAY AROUND THE CALENDAR SO YOUR CHILD WON'T MISS ANY SCHOOL.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SECOND TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH, WITH THE EXCEPTIONS OF
NOVEMBER AND JUNE, ARE SET UP FOR TEACHER LEARNING DAYS. THE NEXT TEACHER
LEARNING DAY IS TUESDAY, 9/9/08. YOUR CHILD WILL BE DISMISSED ON THAT DAY
AT 12:30. THANK YOU. 10/13-14/08 WILL BE OUR NEXT STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAYS
WHICH MEANS NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS.

If your phone number or address has changed, please notify the office and
me. We need up-to-date information in order to communicate with you at all
times especially during an emergency. You can send a brief note with your
child, or call the school, to keep us informed. Thank you.

PLEASE TALK TO YOUR CHILD ABOUT HIS/HER BEHAVIOR IN CLASS. PLEASE REMIND
HIM/HER THAT HE/SHE IS ATTENDNG SCHOOL TO LEARN. IT IS IMPORTANT TO HIS/HER
EDUCATION AND TO THE OTHER STUDENTS' EDUCATION TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT IS
BEING TAUGHT.

Each child should have their own Sunnyvale Public Library card. Parents,
this is an important card and should be kept by you. The Sunnyvale Library
has a wonderful Summer Reading Program and I would encourage you to allow
your child to join. Please encourage your child to read, read, read at least
15 minutes daily! They can read with you or independently if they are able.
Dinner preparation time is a wonderful time to hear your child read out
loud. Bedtime or naptime is a wonderful time to share a book with your
child. Children tend to regress if they don't continue to read over the
summer.

SUMMER IS A GREAT TIME TO HELP YOUR CHILD MEMORIZE THEIR MATH FACTS. WE WILL
BEGIN THE YEAR WITH ADDITION FACTS, CONTINUE WITH SUBTRACTION FACTS, AND END
THE YEAR WITH MULTIPICATION FACTS. A CHILD BEGINS WITH A DISADVANTAGE IF
THEY DON'T KNOW ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION FACTS QUICKLY BY HEART. DRILLING
WITH FACT CARDS OR GOING ON bishopmathscore.com ARE THE BEST WAYS TO
PRACTICE. TIME THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER WILL CAUSE LESS STRESS DURING THE
SCHOOL YEAR.

We need your support with Boxtops for Education. Please begin to collect
them for next year. When you go shopping please remember to look for
products with Boxtops. Please take your child to neighbors' houses that have
no children attending Bishop to ask them to collect Boxtops for us. Don't
forget to have your child call relatives and friends for them too. It is an
easy fund raiser as we get $0.10 for every box top. Thank you, again, for
your support!
