Even though I did not play last season can I try out for next season?

Yes! The time to try out for students on campus is in the Spring during
Spring practice. There is a tryout in the fall before the season starts but
if you wait for the fall you miss valuable practice time from spring, summer
and fall.

Do I have to play summer basketball?

A quick answer is "YES". It would be difficult for a girl to play
successfully without playing summer basketball. You should want to play!
Summer is one of the most important times for a girl to work on her
basketball skills. Without summer basketball you probably will not play when
the season starts in November. That is due to the fact you will be so far
behind.
