Homework for 8th grade Language Arts
Week of November 2 - November 6
This week we will focus on Greek and Latin roots
November 2: Creative writing: write an alternate ending to The Landlady, due Wednesday (half page
to a page in response to the Roald Dahl short story we read last week.) What do you think happens to
Billy?
November 3: Finish landlady alternate ending - due tomorrow, typed or neatly handwritten ok
November 4: Test Thursday (tomorrow!) on Greek and Latin roots - study! Roots HW due tomorrow
November 5: Test on roots today and roots HW due today
November 6: Vocab #5 homework due on 11/12. Test on vocab #5 on 11/19.

Week of Oct. 26 - Oct. 30 - No vocab this week. Roots instead!
Oct. 26: How To Use a Tool Paper due on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Final drafts must be typed and
formatted, including at least 5 steps, 2 graphics, and 2 cautions (at a minimum). Make sure you
include an introduction and a conclusion too!
Oct. 27: How To Use a Tool Paper due tomorrow (Wednesday).
Oct. 28: Pass out 25 Greek and Latin roots. Roots homework:
Write down the root, and tell what it means.
Write a word that uses the root three times.
Write the root three times.
Draw or find a picture that "shows" the root.
Write a sentence using the word.
Example:
Auto = self = automatically
automatically, automatically, automatically
auto, auto, auto

The roots homework is due on the day of the test - due Thurs. 11/5.

This week we'll keep working on vocab. #4 and start writing an expository paper, giving directions
for how to use a tool.
Oct. 19 - Flashcards for vocab. #4 due on Friday
Oct. 20 - Continue with flashcards
Oct. 21 - Continue wiith flashcards
Oct. 22 - Continue with flashcards, plus vocab test is tomorrow!
Oct. 23 - Vocab. #4 test is today
Optional: Over the weekend, work on your "How to Use a Tool" paper - see pages 642-677 in the LA
textbook. Paper must be typed and formatted to look professional with graphics. Final HTUAT paper
due Wednesday, Oct. 28th.
