Why doesn't my student get daily homework?
This year second graders are participating in Project-based homework. Each
month students will receive directions and materials for their project.
Students will have three to four weeks to complete the project. Students
will present their projects in an oral presentation to the class.
**If your child is below grade level in reading, writing, and/or math he/she
may receive additional homework to practice basic skills.

How do I know if a science subject/topic is right for my child?
For this age, if the student understands the concept being studied, then the
topic is probably age appropriate. Remember your student will have to
present his/her project to the class and answer questions about the
presentation.

Why do I need to attend parent conferences?
When you attend parent conferences, you are sending a positive message to
your child that school/education is important. Research shows that when
parents are involved in school activities, student are more successful.

Why do second graders have to take a state test?
This is mandated by the state of California. The tests are based on the
educational standards established by the state of California.
