| This year students will have Project-Based homework instead of a weekly
homework packet.
September - A Day with Frog and Toad Poster
October - Animal Cereal Box Report
November - Science Fair Projects (mandatory)
January/February - Biography Cube
March - Dr. Suess Book Report
April - Special Family Recipe
Students will write and share a family recipe with the class. The recipe can
be as simple or as complicated as you choose to do with your child. The
recipe should include a list of materials (ie. bowls, spoons, etc), a list
of ingredients with measurements (ie. 1 banana, 1 tbl peanut butter, etc),
the steps to make the recipe, a short description of why the recipe is
important to the family, and the cost of making this recipe. A SAMPLE WAS
SENT HOME-PLEASE REFER TO IT. Should you need additional help, please see
me.
This project should be fun and exciting for you and your child. All recipes
brought to class will be compiled into a class recipe book for each student
to take home. Projects are due the week of Monday 4/28-Friday 5/2
*****OPTIONAL-Students can bring in samples of their recipes to share with
the class. There will be a sign up sheet for students/parents who choose to
bring in food samples.*********
UPDATE-Some students have already brought in their special recipes to share
and WOW-They have been very yummy. Students are having a great time sharing
their family recipes and telling how important these recipes are to their
families. Thank you for your participation:)
Parents-You may help your child with his/her project, BUT the student needs
to understand what the project is about. Remember students will have to
present their projects to the class in an oral presentation. She/he will
have to be able to answer questions about the report. Have fun with this!
Should you have any questions-Please contact me.
*****Students are to read for 20 minutes per night-They will bring home a
reading log home every Monday, it is to be returned on Friday.
**NOTE REGARDING HOMEWORK**
If your child is working below grade level in the areas of reading, writing,
and/or math he/she may receive additional daily homework in addition to the
project-based homework assignment. Should you have any questions regarding
the homework policy please email me, leave a message in the office, or stop
by the classroom before or after school.
Thank you for your continued support in your child's education:)
