Biography Box: A Historical Who's Who

 

A researcher has discovered a mysterious box belonging to a famous person.  Inside the box are artifacts and personal items belonging to the person.&nb= sp; The researcher carefully inventories the contents of the box, resear= ches each item, and describes the significance of the item in the famous person's life.

Task: 

Create a “Biography Box” about a famous person from the eras we're been studying.  Your “boxR= 21; may be a basket, a trunk--any container that can hold personal items. Desig= n or decorate the box in a way that reveals something about your historical figure.  Each item in the box = must be identified and tagged with a detailed summary that tells important facts about his/her life, showing off your research.  I encourage you to look for and use primary documents in your pursuit to know this person better.

 

What Goes in the Box:

 

1.   &nbs= p;     Collect or make three items that had important meaning in the life of the person.

 

2.&= nbsp;            Make a book of names of people known by the person--friends, enemies, family, lovers...  At least five of the names should have a detailed note written by the researcher explaining the importance or influence of those individuals.

 

3.&= nbsp;            Write an obituary (at least one full page), covering the life, accomplishments, d= eath and legacy of the person, assuming a historical point-of-view (someone who = knew him/her)—critical or favorable. If you can find an authentic obituary, include it.

 

4.&= nbsp;            Find or make something “produced” by the person (a letter, book, drawing, poem, piece of music, map, etc.).=   The item should be something in keeping with the famous person's lif= e and/or work.  Search for relevant pri= mary documents; they’re out there!

 

5.&= nbsp;            Create a timeline of several world events--political, social, technological, scientific, artistic--occurring during your figure’s lifetime.

 

6.&= nbsp;            Insert a bibliography of the resources you used to do your research (three minimum beyond your textbook).
