Library Policies

Hours:

The media center is open on scheduled school days from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Checkout:

Students may checkout one book at a time; if they need additional books please talk to the library staff. Books are checked out for two weeks and may be renewed. We do not charge fines, we post overdue lists once a month. Students who do not clear their names from the list by returning their books or paying for lost materials will receive lunch detentions.

Computer Rules:

Students may access the computers in the media center before, after, and during free time. The computers are to be used for school work only.

Students sign a computer code contract (link) and agree to follow the guidelines. Failure to abide by the contract may result in loss of computer privileges.

Printing:

Students should ask before printing. Do not print directly from a website, copy into a Word document to limit the number of pages. The color printer should only be used for final copies and with staff permission. Print from the media center computers to avoid conflicts. Printing should be school related.

Behavior:

Students are expected to follow the R2S2 (Respect, Responsibility, Safety and Self Control) behavior code. Use a "0" voice level when entering and exiting the media center and a "1" voice level when engaged in activities.

Internet:

The Internet is to be used for school work only. Students who use the Internet inappropriately will lose their computer access. The school uses subscription databases that require user names and passwords to access them. Use the following:

Grolier's -- User Name -- steamboat, password -- home

CultureGrams -- User Name -- steamboat1, password -- springs

EBSCO -- User Name -- ssjhs, password -- colorado

These databases are to be used by Steamboat Springs Middle School students and staff only.
