FICTION:

Second Fiddle by Siobhan Parkinson -- a story of friendship, loss, music and getting along, set in Ireland.

Benny and Omar by Eoin Colfer -- Two boys - one Irish one and one Tunisian -- mix it up in a book that combines humor and tragedy in a North African setting.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney -- A hilarious cartoon novel about the life of an ordinary, somewhat oblivious, middle school boy.

Cover-Up by John Feinstein -- Is the NFL covering up steroid use at the Super Bowl? A couple of kid reporters get together to find out the truth.

Mississippi Jack by L. A. Meyer -- The most recent in the Jacky Faber series about a young adventuress who gets involved with skirmishes on the high seas and, in this book, with Mike Fink on the Mississippi River.

The Rogues by Jen Yolen and Robert Harris -- This is the fourth exciting book that these authors have collaborated in writing about adventures in Scotland. The book takes place in the mid-1700's during a period in Scottish history known as the Highland Clearances and involves betrayal, friendship, kinship, and rogues on the run from the militia.

The Mysterious Edge of the Heroic World by E. L. Konigsburg -- Art mysteries, the Holocaust, eccentric neighbors and precocious kids all collide in Florida in a multilayered, complex and intertwining story of the present colliding with past Nazi repression.

The Golden Dream of Carlo Chuchio by Lloyd Alexander -- A fantasy book from the Mideast -- Camel pullers, treasure maps, villains and searching for a treasure that may not exist keep Carlo Chuchio wandering the desert in a humorous adventure.

Love, Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli -- A sequel to Stargirl, this continues the story of a sensitive non-conformist girl in high school. She recently moved from an Arizona high school full of catty cliques to a new home in Pennsylvania. She misses old friends and makes new ones while maintaining her individualism.

Toby Wheeler Eight-Grade Benchwarmer by Thatcher Heldring --Toby has only played pick up games in the gym and discovers when he joins the team he is low man on the totem pole.

Diamonds in the Shadow by Caroline Cooney -- An American family takes in a refugee family from the violent African country of Sierra Leone, where brutality is a way of life and blood (conflict) diamonds cause the strife. Secrets, tension, and misunderstandings abound.
