Homework

Board of Education policy states that fourth grade students should receive
approximately 40 minutes of homework nightly. Homework usually consists of
15 minutes of reading, a math assignment and various other assignments that
arise throughout the year. Each student is responsible for writing their
assignments in their agenda book daily. After your child has written in their
agenda in the morning, I will initial to verify that the assignments have
been recorded correctly. To keep the lines of communication open, I would
appreciate it if you would also initial or sign the agenda as well after your
child has completed their assignments. Agendas that are not signed will
result in a 5 minute silent snack time. Please check this page frequently for
homework updates.

Homework Assignments
Each night students should study their multiplication facts. Facts tests are
about 3 times per week. They will also have a math work sheet to reinforce
what they have been learning in class.

Students should also study their spelling words nightly. Spelling tests are
each week and they get a new set of words each time which include the
previous weeks words. Each child has created their own spelling notebook to
keep track of their own personal word lists. Please be sure to check that your
child is studying each night.

In addition to this there will be a making words activity, D.O.L. (Daily
Oral Language),spelling activities (Fix It, Sort It, Find It, Stretch It, Add
It), or CMT practice sheets on reading, grammar, editing and revising. These
will alternate weekly.

At times there may be a science or social studies activity for students to
complete. They usually have a longer period of time to complete these as
science and social studies meet every other day.
