The children will be asked to write daily and in varying formats. In the Fall, the focus in
first grade is on sound-symbol connections, letter formation and basic sight words (a, the, is,
etc.). We also stress leaving spaces between words, writing letters on lined paper correctly,
and using ending marks (periods) and capital letters where appropriate. Your child will keep
and write in a journal which will be updated throughout the school year.

 

Writing lessons are taught utilizing Braidy, the story braid and a modified version of the Empowering Writers program.

 

Sometimes you will see a class book sent home for your family to enjoy.  Please return it to school the next day!
