CLASS NEWS...November 7th, 2009
We will be welcoming a new student to our classroom at the end of November!
Our class will now have 18 students.
When correcting student work, I will circle any errors on the assignment,
giving you and your child a chance to correct the examples together. If you
would like to, you are welcome to send the corrected paper back to school for
review.
Morning Work papers, given daily, are meant to be a review of Kindergarten
and early first grade skills. The work is supposed to be completed
independently by your child and should take about 10 minutes to complete.
This work will be sent home and may seem "easy" to you - that's OK! More
involved, higher level activities are done throughout the rest of your
child's school day during class lessons.
If your child's paper is stamped "COMPLETED WITH HELP", this stamp indicates
that the work on the page required more direct teacher help for your child
than was needed by other students in the class. This stamp means the
concepts covered on the page are ones you may want to review at home
periodically to help your child become more independent in the specific skill.
During read alouds this past week, we have been discussing bullies. What to
do if you encounter one and how to help others deal with bullies have been
discussed in depth. The children know to 1.) use their words asking the
person to stop the bullying behavior, 2.) move away from the bully, and 3.)
report the behavior to the teacher if the first two strategies do not work!
PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION STATEMENT...
My philosophy of education centers around the belief that every child can
learn! Regardless of what skill level your child is at, he/she is capable
(and most times eager!) to rise to a new level. The children naturally seek
to make sense of reading, writing, mathematics and social studies/science
because these subjects are an integral part of the world around them.
I believe that your job as a parent is equally as important as my job as a
teacher. The support you provide at home, your attitude towards schooling,
and the experiences you enrich your child's life with are all important
factors in his/her approach to education.
I am thankful for such wonderful and caring families in the community of
Columbia. By working together, we can watch your child blossom during the
course of the school year!
