I have been teaching at Porter School for eight years since graduating from
the University of Connecticut with my Bachelor's and Master's degrees. When
I am not teaching science I spend my time riding, competing, and taking care
of my horses, and working with other horses and riders. I also enjoy
hiking, running, cheering on the Red Sox, yoga, playing piano, and baking!
Welcome to sixth grade science! This year will provide fun and
challenging opportunities for skill developing and strengthening in a
variety of areas. Over the course of the school year, the students will
explore four main units which align with the Connecticut state curriculum
content standards: Ecology, Weather, Water, and Matter. Exploration of these
units will take place through a balanced approach of inquiry based, hands-on,
student centered activities and skill building. I am looking forward to a
very productive and fun year of sixth grade science!
The text books used in sixth grade science are from the Prentice Hall Science
series. The texts are Ecology: Earths's Living Resources, Exploring Earth's
Weather, and Matter: The Building blocks of the Universe.
