How does my child get hot lunch and/or milk?

Hot lunch (with milk included) is available at school for $2.75 a day (or
$13.75 for a 5-day ticket.) Milk, juice or water is available for $.50 a
day. You can send cash or check to school with your child and s/he will buy
his/her ticket(s) in the morning. I have a safe place in the classroom for
each child to leave his/her ticket(s). I help your child work on being
responsible by reminding him/her to tell you when s/he needs more tickets.
You can certainly email or call me if there is ever any confusion in this
area:)

What type of homework do you have in first grade?

My primary homework assigment is READ, READ, READ. I'd like you to read to
your child, read with your child and have your child read to you. A balance
of these three types of reading will, hopefully, help your child develop of
LOVE of reading!

We also focus on sight words. There are 198 high frequency words that we
work on in 1st grade. As the name suggests, these words are frequently
found in your child's reading. Regular practice (3 or 4 times a week) of
the words I send home can greatly effect your child's reading development.

There are many other types of homework given throughout the year. These
assignments usually relate to a topic that we are studying at the time. I try
to allow at least a week for completion of all homework.

Does my child need a snack everyday?

Yes. We have snack time around 10:30 each day. Please be sure to send in a
snack and drink to help get your child through the morning.

Can parents volunteer in the classroom?

Definately YES! We love when parents help us. I generally ask parents to
help during our literacy block working with small groups of children. I
have many fun literacy building activities that the students LOVE
to "play". If you are interested in volunteering once a week, once a month
or once in a while please let me know and we'll set something up.

How often should I visit this website?

This website endeavor is still new to me so I'm not sure how often I
will be updating things. My hope is to update activities at least once a
month. Please bear with my as I get my "web" feet wet:)
