By mid-November we will have completed our first novel, Where the Red Fern
Grows. In conjunction with our New York trip to see The Lion King on
Broadway, we will be doing a unit related to African folktales. The
culminating activity for this unit involves the presentation of a puppet show
based on one of the folktales. Viewing the New York show should provide some
ideas and inspiration for student presentations. Mrs. Delio will be
providing us with instruction for creating puppets and scenery. In social
studies, students will be learning about the setting and background when they
study the geography of Africa with Miss Eagan. Many Shipmates remember seeing
the puppet shows presented by last year's seventh graders. Now it will be
their turn to entertain the sixth grade classes!
