Colony Project

The Colony Project

You have selected a colony.

Name of assigned colony ________________

	Your student in this class has been assigned a report on the above 
colony.  Each student must write a report on this colony.  In 
the report, they must find as much of the following information as 
possible.  
Guide Questions:
	Use these questions as a guideline for focusing your research.  You 
may omit some questions and/or create your own questions.  This is 
especially helpful if you decide to use a QAD.
•	 1.	Why did the first colonists come to this colony?

2.	When did the colony begin?

3.	What problems did they face in the beginning?

4.	What was good about the location of the colony?

5.	Who were the people that led at the start of the colony?

6.	How did the colonists address and solve the problems that they faced?

7.	Who were the Native American tribes that were there when the 
colonists arrived?

8.	What time of year did they first arrive and how did that affect 
their success?

9.	If there were local Native tribes, were they helpful, and how did 
that relationship change over time?

10.	Where did they get food at first, then later?

11.	Did any other group try to take the colony away from the original 
colonists?

12.	How prepared were the original colonists to start a colony?

13.	How successful were the first colonists?

14.	If there were many deaths, how did they occur?

15.	What was the voyage to the New World like?

16.	What country were the colonists from?

17.	How long did it take to get to the New World?

18.	What was the purpose of the colony?

put 
on source cards or sheets.  Source sheets will be provided.  Due date

Notes:  Students are to create notes from their sources.  Questions are 
provided as a guide to help with each student’s notes, however they are only 
meant as a guide.  The students should choose one of the note forms (web,
