FOCUS - June 24-July 21
The fundamental purpose of FOCUS is to provide stimulating, hands-on activities to illustrate concepts and skills. FOCUS strives to ignite intellectual curiosity, reinforce basic study skills, and teach students how to make connections to further their learning. The program's goal is to prepare middle school students for the academic and social expectations for both high school and prep school.
FOCUS is designed for students who have completed grade 6 or 7.

FOCUS ELI- June 24-July 21
The purpose of FOCUS ELI is to develop and enhance English language skills through interactive reading, writing, and speaking activities. Small classes and a supportive environment help students improve their written and oral ENGLISH skills. FOCUS ELI courses have been carefully selected and designed to integrate skills essential for students to develop their ability in writing, speaking, listening, and reading. English placement is determined after testing on the first day of classes.
Participants must be non-native speakers of English who have studied the language at least two years in their home schools and who can converse in English.

CONNECT June 24-July 21
CONNECT seeks to empower and encourage young women to achieve in math and science through hands-on activities and interactive learning experiences. It is an intensive, four-week, integrated science and mathematics program for girls who have completed grades 6-8. Small classes and a faculty-to-student ratio of approximately 1 to 5 create a challenging but supportive atmosphere for learning.

YOUNG WRITERS WORKSHOP Session I~ June 24-July 6 ; Session II~ July 8-July 20
The Young Writers Workshop is an opportunity for students to learn skills that will help them to enjoy writing, to have success as writers, and to discover the pleasures and opportunities that skill as a writer can bring them. The two weeks can make a real difference in a young writer's progress, making the program an exciting opportunity for the students.
This popular program offers students who have completed grades 6-8 experience in exploring, improving, and gaining confidence in their skills both as critical and creative writers.

BEGINNING WRITERS WORKSHOP Session I~ June 24-July 6 ; Session II~ July 8-July 20
Beginning Writers Workshop seeks to develop and build skills for effective communication through reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Interactive assignments, fun, camaraderie, peer support and individual conferences are integral teaching strategies in this program. Students must have completed grades 5 or 6.

College for Kids
@ Springfield Technical Community College
Center for Business and Technology
College for Kids is a program designed for children in grades 2-11. The courses available for these students range from Robotics and Art to Fashion Design and Computer Networking. Classes are held each summer in classrooms and labs on the STCC campus. The College for Kids program includes two, 2-week sessions and classes are typically held Monday through Thursday in two-hour blocks.

Registration Process
Applications will be considered on a 'first-come, first-served' basis and space is strictly limited in all courses. Many courses will be fully enrolled before the start of classes so early application is strongly recommended.

Cyber Launch Pad (formerly Compter Creatives Camp.) Summer fun for children ages 7 to 12!
Half days for four weeks in July. Come for two or more weeks. Participants download CyberSlate onto their home computers prior to the sessions. Parents and children learn how to use CyberSlate to practice every day at home, as well as in the daily classes. The daily program is a fast-paced combination of learning keyboarding, word processing, and programming, and remedial sessions in reading, writing, and arithmetic. |
Summer Study Skills - Mornings, three or four weeks, beginning the last week of June. Brushing up in skills in Studying, Writing, or Mathematics. Studying using our previewing techniques with texts from your fall courses, may include reading improvement, outlining, spotting main ideas, vocabulary building, foreign language study, note taking, memorizing, and test taking.

Residential camper schedule: arrive Sunday at 1pm and depart Friday at 2pm. |

Day camper schedule: Sunday 1pm to 9:30pm (optional after 7pm). Monday - Thursday campers arrive 8:45am and are picked up any time as of 5pm and no later than 9:30pm. There is no extra charge for the extended day. Friday 8:45am to 2pm. Day campers may be dropped off as early as 7:45am. The extra fee is $40 per week and includes daily breakfast. |

Summer Excursions in Learning
Manchester Community College

Morning Classes (9 am - noon), Afternoon Classes (1-4 pm), Full Day
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Excursions in Learning for Children at Manchester Community College, is a two-week enrichment program for gifted and high-achieving children in elementary and middle school. The program offers over 40 activity-oriented classes - 14 of them new - in visual and performing arts, science, math, technology, world cultures and creative writing. Summer Excursions 2007 runs from July 30 - August 10. Morning (9am - noon), afternoon (1-4pm), and full day sessions are available.
In addition, a new one-week tecnology camp for students completing grades 6-8 called Engineer This is scheduled from July 16 - July 20, 2007.
Junior Culinary Camp is a one-week summer program in which students, who have completed grades 5-8, learn about healthy eating, and prepare a variety of recipes in MCC's professional kitchens.
All classes are held on the campus of Manchester Community College.

Camp Newhoca - Summer Highlights - Teen Camp
Summer Highlights and Camp Newhoca are open to children ages 6-12. Summer Highlights sites include Center 375, Henry Park, and Valley Falls. The program offers a variety of structured activities. Bus transportation if provided, please circle bus stop on registration form. Kiddie Camp is open to children ages 4-5 and runs 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Teen Camp is open to children 13-15. During Session 6, Teen Camp will either have an additional field trip or have the opportunity to go to an overnight camp sight. All campers in each camp will receive a camp t-shirt.

If you are being picked up at Lake Street School or Valley Falls, you may only attend Summer Highlights at Valley Falls or Camp Newhoca.
