A representatives from Cheney Tech visited VCMS on October 6, 2008 to conduct an information session for interested 8th grade students during 8th block.   Cheney Tech hosted an Open House on Thursday, October 15th from 6:00-8:00 pm at their school.  Families who were not able to make it to the open house are encouraged to call Cheney Tech directly to ask questions and arrange for a time to see the school.

Applications for Cheney Tech are now available in the VCMS guidance department or online at the website listed below.  Applications are due in to the VCMS Guidance Office no later than Monday, December 1st, 2008 in order to meet the application deadline set by Cheney Tech.  

The applicatoin process for Connectict Vocational Schools has changed from years past.  An interview is no longer a component used in the admission criteria.  CMT scores from grade 7 are now a criteria that is considered.

  • The lottery will be held in the spring of 2009  The results will be mailed to applicants.  Please do not call the office for the lottery results.  Any applications received after the deadline will be placed at the end of the waiting list.

    • -Student application form, Commitment Agreement, two typed essays, and middle school counselor recommendation are due on or before February 13, 2009.
    • -Counselor Recommendation Form: Please turn in to your VCMS counselor for completion NO LATER THAN Friday, February 6, 2009.

    Entrance Exam
    Saturday, December 6th, 2008
    8 a.m. at East Catholic
    Pre-registration is not required; there is a $25 fee to take the exam.
    All eighth graders must take the entrance exam.

    Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts

    As of Friday, January 11, 2008, Vernon will now allow students to apply to the Greater Academy of the Arts.

    The Arts Acedemy is a magnet arts high school (both full day and half day programs) that offers intensive arts study in:  Dance; Visual Arts; Creative Writing; Theatre; Technical Theater; Musical Theater; and Music (instrumental or vocal).

    A Brief Outline of the Application Process:

    • Students MUST visit the Academy for the one half-day (1:00-4:15)
    • A completed application form and recommendations must be received at the Academy by February 16th, 2008.
    • Once the application is received, the Arts Academy will call applicant to schedule an audition/interview time.
    • Auditions for new students (entering grades 9-12) will be on Saturday, March 1 & 8 (2008)

    Open House Sessions (7pm @ The Main Theater, 359 Washington Street):

        • January 17, 2008
        • February 5, 2008

    Audition dates for admission for the 2008-2009 school year are:

      • Saturday, March 1, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
      • Saturday, March 8, 2008, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Applications need to be submitted no later than March 7, 2008

    Rockville High School

    Rockville High School has starting their scheduling process for the 2008-2009 school year.  Counselors conducted presentations in 8th grade English classes on Friday, January 11th.

    Students will receive their course recommendation sheets at the end of the school day on Tuesday, January 29th (when they also get their 2nd quarter report card).  These are to be taken home for review and singed by a parent/guardian.  Signed forms need to be returned to homeroom teachers on or before Tuesday, February 5th.

    There will be an Open House for all current 8th graders and their family members on Thursday, January 31st starting at 6pm at RHS.  In case of inclement weather, the Open House will be on February, 7th.

    Rockville H.S. Agriculture Education Program

    (formerly known as the Vo-Ag Program)

    A representative from the Rockville Regional Agriculture Education Program will conduct an information session for interested 8th grade students on Thursday, January 24th during 8th block at VCMS.  Interested 8th grade students need to sign up in advance in the Guidance Office.

    Students are encouraged to attend the Rockville High School Open House on Thursday, January 31st and visit the Ag-Ed wing of the building at that time.  Applications and information will be made available in the VCMS guidance department once more information arrives.

    Sport & Medical Sciences Academy

                                            

     

    The Sports and Medical Sciences Academy is seeking students in grades 7-12 that are college-centered and have an interest in exploring medical and sports sciences.

    SMSA will be holding Open Houses on the following date:  Tuesday, January 22, 2008 @ 6:00 pm

    Applications are available online by going to the school's website.  Click on the "Apply Now" button and you will be directed to the SMSA Parent/Student Compact.  If you agree to the compact, you will be directed to the application.
