Dear Parents,
Happy Holidays! Our last day of school before Winter Break is this Friday and
we are all very excited.
In Math this week we will name and classify polygons, build arrays to model
multiplication, identify and name quadrangles and compare their similarities
and differences, and we’ll compare and contrast characteristics of 3-D shapes.
We will construct pyramids using straws and twist ties and identify the
relationship between the number of faces, edges, and vertices in the pyramids.
We will also experiment with paper-folding and cutting to create 6-sided
snowflakes.
We will wrap up our fairy tales unit in reading and writing this week as we
compare and contrast Cinderella stories using a Venn diagram and discuss
whether or not we believe the wolf after reading The True Story of the Three
Little Pigs. We will use quote marks in our writing to indicate when
characters are speaking, and we will begin to distinguish between plural nouns
and possesives as we practice using apostrophes appropriately.
Our travel Power Point presentations have taken a little longer than
expected, but we plan to finish them this week. We will add transitions and
sound effects, and then will present them to the class. The kids will offer
positive feedback to each other.
	A few announcements/reminders:
		- Our holiday party is this Thursday at 1:30. Parents are welcome to join
in the fun.
		- Janney’s annual holiday sing-along is this Friday morning.
		- Although I will not assign homework to complete during the vacation,
please make sure your child reads at least 20 minutes each day.
	Have a wonderful holiday!
Sincerely,
Shana
