Earth/Space Science Expo
Dear supporters of our 9th graders, Mrs. Hollon’s current Earth/Space
Science students would like to invite you to their Alternative Energy
Resource Expo.
It is common thought that we will run out of fossil fuels within the next
170 years. Considering our current fuel crisis Earth/Space Science students
have been researching different alternative energy sources that may help us
escape our reliance on fossil fuels for energy. They have been working hard
to research and develop companies to sell their natural resource products.
It would be a shame for all this knowledge and creativity to be wasted, so
please come out and show your support by picking their brains. Come
prepared with difficult questions and your curiosity. The students have been
anticipating your arrival, and they are prepared to answer any questions you
may have regarding a particular alternative energy resource. The times for
the expo is listed below. Thanks

By RANDOLPH E. SCHMID, AP Science Writer
WASHINGTON -- New evidence shows humans lived in North America more than
14,000 years ago, 1,000 years earlier than had previously been known.
KGW report on scientists' discovery Discovered in a cave in Oregon, fossil
feces yielded DNA indicating these early residents were related to people
living in Siberia and East Asia, according to a report in Thursday's online

The Hayward Fault: America’s Most Dangerous?
Released: 3/20/2008 1:00:00 PM
An earthquake of M6.8 or greater on the Hayward Fault, in the heart of the
San Francisco Bay area, is increasingly likely. The last major earthquake on
the Hayward Fault was in 1868, 140 years ago: research by the U.S.
Geological Survey (USGS) and others indicate the past five such earthquakes
have been 140 years apart on average.

Geologist Salaries are at Record Highs!
High natural resource prices, retirements and low enrollments help boost
salaries for geologists.
It's a Great Time to Be a Geologist!
The news is full of stories about petroleum and mineral resource companies
offering geologists unprecedented salaries. The commodity prices that
traditionally drive geologist employment in these sectors are at very high
levels. Oil is flirting with $100 per barrel, gold is near $1000 an ounce
and the price of many other important fuels and metals are at or near all-
time highs. Times are good for geologists seeking work in these areas. There
are lots of interesting and good-paying jobs.

of its surrounding galaxy.

Two rocks found together in Antarctica are chunks of a dwarf planet that was
smashed apart early in the solar system's history, detailed studies suggest.
Other remnants of the proto-world may still be floating around in the
asteroid belt, and might be identifiable by the spectrum of the sunlight
they reflect.
