**Welcome New and Returning Students to The Pendleton School!...**
            *****Bienvenidos!...Bienvenue!...*****

Did you know that studying a second language can increase achievement in
all other subject areas, thus increasing scores on tests such as the SAT and
ACT?
Whatever language you choose this year(French or Spanish), learning it will
make a difference in how you see the world and in how the world sees you.

So take advantage of this opportunity and let's have a great year!

               **********************************************

They are some expectations I have concerning the upcoming year. It is
not an exhaustive list, but outlines some of what I anticipate.

EXPECTATIONS:

By Florida state law, a part of your final grade(20%) is devoted to
employability. This 20% employability is based on
Active participation/No tardiness/Homework done. THIS IS EQUAL TO 30
POINTS PER DAY.

This involves:

1. Being punctual
2. Having the required material(planner, books, pens, paper, work,...) in
class
3. Diligent use of planner
4. Work in class and homework completed on time. Presentable looseleaf (no
ripped edges or frillies) with your full name. Indeed, any type of work can
be typed. One assignment per page.
5. Proper dress code
6. Respectful behavior towards peers and teacher (no discriminatory or
prejudice comments of any kind tolerated in my classroom); respectful
behavior towards school property. Use of best manners on a daily basis.
7. Participating in class voluntarily.
8. Attending Directed Learning when asked (on Wednesdays from 7 p:m to 9 p:m)
9. Not bringing food or beverages (other than water) into the classroom
10.No unexcused absences.
11.No cheating

CHEATING:
The student will receive an "F" on the assignment and will not be given an
opportunity to resubmit the assignment.

TARDIES:
Students are required to be in class on time. Three accumulated tardies
count as an unexcused absence. This unexcused absence will be reported to
the administration.

ABSENCES:

-Excused absences include: sickness, doctor's appointment,
tournament,religious reasons, bereavment.
-Keeping current in your assignments is crucial.Consequently, students who
know that they are going to be absent from class MUST inform the teacher
ahead of time to receive the assigned work. We will work to complete your
assignments before your depart. You should date your skills checklist as
information presented the first day of class and use it during tutorial time
to learn any information that was missed.
-If a student misses a class for sickness, that student may receive 1 day
per absent day to hand in assigned work after returning from the absence. In
this case, the student must come to directed learning.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE:
-You are expected to attend class. If you know you are going to be absent,
Pendleton has a leave of absence procedure. If you are unsure of this
procedure, please refer to your Planner. Any lack of communication about
what may be an excused absence will result in an unexused absence. This is
important, since makeup work and participation points depend on why you were
absent. If something is due or you are absent without a legitimate excuse
during a test or quiz day, you will not be given a makeup.

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE-MENTIONED EXPECTATIONS WILL RESULT IN THE
DEDUCTION OF POINTS FROM THE EVERY DAY PARTICIPATION GRADE.

--> For example:
Each student will begin the quarter with a set amount of points which will
be subtracted from if there are any violation of the employability code such
as:
- arriving late to class or without your book(s), including your planner.
- coming to class unprepared to discuss
- inappropriate classroom behavior. (For example, if I have to
ask you to keep quiet or pay attention, I will take away points.)
- not taking notes or not using your Planner...

TESTS:

You will have a test at the end of each chapter. Each test will be
worth 25% of for the quarter. These tests will incorporate vocabulary,
grammar, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, and essay.

The Pendleton School uses a 4-point system: A (100-90)
