FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
How can I help my son/daughter succeed in Language Arts? There are many ways parents can help their child be successful in class. The primary way is to make sure they are organized. This means review their binder and verify that notes, handouts, homework etc...are in the correct spot. I've told the students how to set up their binder now it is up to them to keep it organized. Another tip is to ask them about the day's assignment what we reviewed or discussed in writing, literature and grammar. It helps improve memory retention when they have to teach someone else. Lastly, check their notebook. Although, my website lists the homework it is a secondary source of information. All students should be writing down the homework off the board and into their agenda. Computers are susceptible to malfunctions and weather issues, so please do not use it as the sole source of information. How are grades computed? Do I have access? Grades are given on a point system. Each assignment, quiz or test is worth a certain number of points. An average is computed by the student's points divided by the points possible. Grades are generally updated weekly. To access your child's grades go to the school website and click on the edline link. Contact the office for your account name and password. (see handbook for more info.) Are there extra credit opportunities? Yes. I always provide ways for students to earn an extra point here and there. The form varies from in class reviews, to vocabulary words or general knowlege questions. Will there be a midterm and final? Yes. Each midterm and final will be divided into 2 exams English/Writing and Literature. Students will be provided with review sheets, and review time in class. |
