Absences- Punctual and regular attendance for every student is very important. After an absence from school, please send a note with your child. I have included absence excuse forms in this packet for your convenience.
Birthdays- We love to celebrate birthdays at school!! On your child’s special day, you may send in a special snack and napkins to share with the class. Please send in items such as cookies, cupcakes, doughnuts, fruit snacks, etc. that are already in individual portions. You might also like to read to the class on your child's special day. Please make arrangements with me in advance for a classroom snack or reading visit.
Book bags- Please send your child to school with a book bag everyday. It is a good idea to label all book bags, coats, lunch boxes, and any other personal items with your child’s name. Blanchard students may not use rolling backpacks without written notice from a physician.
Breakfast- Breakfast will be served daily in the cafeteria from 8:10-8:40. The price for breakfast is 85 cents (reduced price- 35 cents).
Daily Assignment Book - Your student will bring home a daily assignment book/ agenda each day. This book will contain the student’s homework and behavior information for each day. Your student will be expected to go over any homework assignments, behavior information, or other comments in this agenda with you each day. He will be expected to return the agenda to school the next day with a parent signature.
OWL Notebook (Daily Binder) - Your child will bring home a binder each day with homework and other school communications. Please check this binder, sign the daily agenda booklet, and return both to school the next day. This notebook is the designated place to put notes to the teacher, lunch money, etc. Your student will have a plastic sleeve located in the front of the binder to transport money envelopes to school.
Lunch- You are welcome to join your child for lunch on any occasion; however, the cafeteria would like several days’ notice. Please be advised that food from other restaurants is not permitted in the cafeteria. The price for lunch is $1.75 per day (reduced price- 40 cents per day). The price for an adult lunch is $3.50. I suggest paying for lunch by the week or month. Your student may also purchase milk, chips, water, or ice cream (50 cents to $1.00) each day. In our classroom, students are allowed to purchase either ice cream or chips, not both items at one lunch meal. I would suggest using ice cream purchases as a treat or reward for special days and good behavior/ work habits. Carbonated drinks of any kind are not permitted at school.
Money - When you send money to school, please put it in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name, my name, and the reason the money is to be used. Please place this envelope in your child’s OWL notebook money/notes sleeve for consistency. This way, your child is less likely to lose his money. Your student and I will check this sleeve each morning. If your student brings money to school without a note or envelope explaining its purpose, I will return it in the OWL notebook money sleeve. This procedure protects your child from any misunderstandings.
Example: Mary Jones Mrs. Harris $5.00 Lunch

Notes to school- Please send a note indicating changes in transportation, absences from school, special medical attention, or if you need me to contact you for any reason. Please place these notes in your child’s OWL notebook money/ notes plastic sleeve. You may also reach me by school e-mail as needed. The school e-mail address is moharris@mcsdga.net. Please do not e-mail changes of transportation or emergency information, as I often do not check my e-mail until the school day is over.
Schedule of Special Area Classes - Our special area classes are Music, Art, and P.E. This year, your student will receive forty minutes of P.E. instruction three days each week. Please make certain you child dresses appropriately and wears tennis shoes on P.E. days. A schedule of special classes will be sent home on the first day of school.
Tuesday Take Home Folder- Folders will go home most Tuesdays. The folder will include important school information, the week’s class work, and your child’s behavior report. Please review this information, sign the folder, and return it on Wednesday.
Visitors- We want to provide a safe and secure environment for your child. When visiting with us, please stop by the office, sign in, and receive a visitor's pass before coming to our classroom.
Water bottles- Your child may bring a water bottle to school. The bottle needs to be a flip/pull up top or no spill variety only. Please do not send students to school with the twist off top similar to soft drink bottles. The twist top bottles spill extremely easily. Frequently, a student will forget to close the top. When transporting the water bottle to school, please put it in a Ziploc bag and separate pocket in the student’s backpack. It is very frustrating for the student, when he arrives at school and finds wet textbooks, library books, and binders. The student should have only water in the water bottle.
Web site - Our class has a classroom website for announcements, information, homework assignments, and a monthly calendar. This website is located on the TeacherWeb.com site. Our website address is www.teacherweb.com/GA/BlanchardElementarySchool/Harris/hf1. Please check this website frequently for updates and information about our classroom.
I welcome your questions and comments! I can be reached at school between 8:15 and 3:30. The school phone number is 706-748-2460. You may also use the school e-mail to communicate with me. My e-mail address is moharris@mcsdga.net. I look forward to a terrific year.
