FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
What are the ages in the SNP classroom? Our class is composed of children from preschool to pre-k age (3 to 5 years old). What are the arrival procedures for the SNP class? If your child rides a bus to school they will be greeted by the teachers at the bus no earlier than 7:20am. If your child is a car rider you have 2 options. You can walk your child to the front lobby to be greeted by the teachers. We will meet you in the lobby no earlier than 7:20. Students are not allowed in the classrooms until 7:35. The other option is drop off your child in the carpool lane after 7:20. This option requires some special instructions. Please pull up past the crosswalk so that the flow of school traffic is not impeded. Wait for one of the classroom teachers to help your child get out of the car. IF you are later than 7:35 you MUST park and bring your child to the classroom. We follow the same school schedule as the rest of the school which means we need to be headed to the classroom at 7:35. The official start of the school day is 7:50. After that time you are required to check in and out of the office as a visitor, even if you are just bringing your child to the classroom and leaving. How long is my child's school day? If your child is 3 years old the school day is over at 11:50. If your child is 4 years old the school day is over at 2:20. This time is decided upon at your child's IEP. The IEP committee decides if your child is ready for a full school day. After school program is available for children who stay a full day and are 4 years old by September 1. Since ASP is not connected with the regular school day more stipulations may apply before your child is allowed to access this service. What time does the school bus pick up my child? Special Education Transportation sets up all times for the buses to pick up students. Generally the first child (usually the one that is the farthest away) is picked up at 6:30AM. The earliest the bus can release the children to the teachers at Timber Ridge is 7:20AM. If you have any concerns please speak with your child's bus driver first. If this is not helpful then call Special Education Transportation office at (678)594-8000 to speak to a supervisor. Please do NOT call this office during the hours when students are being transported to and from school. What are the release times for school during Early Release days? Half day students leave one hour early at 10:50. Full day students leave two hours early at 12:10. What is the release time for school for Conference Week? Conference Week for elementary schools is in January. Half day students leave one hour early at 10:50. Full day students leave two hours early at 12:10. How does our SNP/K program differ from the Babies Can't Wait program? Our SNP program is school based while the Babies Can't Wait program is home/therapy based. Our program uses the educational model your child will need while attending school. Although the weekly direct services delivered by school based therapists play an important role in your child's school program, it is the daily integration of therapeutic skills that bring about changes in your child. Upon consulting with the therapists we teachers continually incorporate a variety of the skills and assistive technology (when appropriate) into our daily classroom routines from structured play to snack/lunch to our literacy based thematic units. This differs from the program implemented by Babies Can't Wait. Their model is based on separate services that are generally not integrated with each other but delivered in short isolated sessions at your home. Can my child make up missed school days? Your child is scheduled to attend school on certain days at certain times. Unfortunately, we can not allow the student to attend except during those times. If a need arises that a schedule has to be changed, an IEP meeting can be arranged for changes to be made. |
