FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
  1. When is show and share?
  2. What should I do if my child comes home with a behavior note?
  3. May I email a note re: dismissal changes?
  4. Should my child have more homework?

When is show and share?

Each Monday we will have show and share. The rule is that whatever they
share, it must then be put away in their book bags for the remainder of the
day. If there is no school on a Monday, we will simply skip that week and do
it the next Monday.

What should I do if my child comes home with a behavior note?

First of all, be consistent. If your child has a note that she/he has
written and I have signed, it means that I have had to speak specifically to
your child four times during the day. Please discuss the note with your
child and how that sort of behavior takes away time from the whole class.

Let your child help you make a decision of what the consequence should be for
such behavior. Some ideas may be to take away a favorite privledge, to not
allow a friend to come over for "X" amount of time, or whatever seems to work
for your child. It must be something that is important to YOUR child for
this to be beneficial.

May I email a note re: dismissal changes?

No, please do not send emails with dismissal changes on them. If your child
forgets the note, call the front office and speak with Joyce or Jessica.
Another option is to drop a note off in the office before 2:00.
drop the note off in the office before 2:00 and they will let me know.

Should my child have more homework?

The largest part of your first graders homework is to read with you every
night. The other large piece is to practice math facts (addition and
subtraction to 12). Make flash cards, go to one of the class link pages to
practice,or do this orally in the car on the way to soccer, etc.

From time to time I will send a page of work to do for homework. I do expect
it back on the next school day. It is your child's job to put a large
"H.W." on the top and to remember to do it that afternoon. In teaching
responsibility, go through the steps with them. Assist them as needed to do
the homework, check it over together (it should be all correct at this
point). Remind your child to put it back in their "Home" folder, and finally
remind your child to put it in his/her bookbag.

No, I do not give mounds of homework to six and seven year olds. Enjoy the
extra time with your child.
