We are really looking forward to our field trip to Parky's Farm on October 9th. The kids will get to ride a wagon back to the pumpkin patch to pick their own pumpkin. They will get to spend time in the playbarn, go fishing, pet animals, and learn about bees and other animals.
This week is our Fire Prevention Week! Check out these cool websites to help you LEARN ABOUT FIRE SAFETY!
Good news! I received a grant from the Greater Cincinnati Foundation Learning Links to establish the Everybody Counts program at our school! I am so excited to introduce this program to the kids at North Dearborn. If you haven't heard about it, it is a program that actually lets kids experience disabilities for a day. Every grade level will experience a different disability. This program promotes acceptance and empathy from young children. It involves teachers, parents, and community members. If any of you are already doing this program at your school, please email me and give me some details of how it works at your school. I have found some great resources online but would still like to hear about it first hand.

Parents, Please remind your children to WASH, WASH, WASH their hands with soap and water! We are doing all we can to prevent illness here at school. PLEASE do not send your child to school with a fever. Your child MUST be fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of medicine before returning to school. This is for your child's safety as well as the safety of every person your child comes in contact with. Thanks so much for your help!
Don't forget to have your child complete one of the activities to the left and email it to me for a prize!
We will be Bucketfilling in our classroom. There is a wonderful book titled Have You Filled A Bucket Today by Carol McCloud and Illustrated by David Messing. The book tells children about an invisible bucket that every person carries around with them all day, every day.The purpose of your bucket is to hold your good thoughts and feelings about yourself. You feel good when your bucket is full and sad when it is empty. The children learn that you can fill a bucket when you show love to someone, do something kind, or even when you smile. By doing these nice things for others, you are also filling your own bucket because you feel good when you help others feel good. The book also talks about Bucket Dippers who make others feel bad. We don't want to be Bucket Dippers! Our counselor, Mrs. Hons, will come in each week and help us learn to make good choices so that we can fill our own bucket as well as those around us. If you are looking for a great book to use at home or in the classroom, I can't say enough good things about this one! There is a website dedicated to Bucket Filling that offers a monthly newsletter for teachers and parents. Check it out!

A little about Mrs. Dennis: I am excited to be earning my Gifted and Talented license this year from Ball State University. I have a Master's degree in Mild/Moderate Disabilities so these classes will help me to see the other end of the learning spectrum. I earned my National Board Certification in Early/Middle Literacy:Reading and Language Arts in November 2007. WOOHOO!
