Meet Mrs. Dennis

Welcome! This is my 14th year of teaching first grade at North
Dearborn Elementary in the Sunman-Dearborn Community School District. I am
a product of this school system as well. I attended North Dearborn
Elementary and graduated from East Central High School. I graduated from
Butler University with a BA in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten
endorsement and a Reading minor. I received a Master's Degree in Special
Education from the College of Mount St. Joseph. My focus of study was using
multisensory techniques to teach those with learning disabilities to read.
My thesis was on using those techniques to help people with dyslexia learn
to read. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham and am a firm believer that
anyone can learn to read using multisensory methods.
I am a 2007 National Board Certified Teacher in Early/Middle Literacy:
Reading and Language Arts. It was a long, hard road to acheive this honor
and I am so very glad that I did it. It has been the best, most difficult
thing I have done professionally.
I am working on my Gifted and Talented License this year through Ball
State University. I love Special Ed. and thought it would be interesting to
explore the other end of the spectrum. I love to learn new things and can't
seem to stop going to school!
I live on a farm with my husband and 2 children, as well as a variety
of pets.
My first class of first graders graduated in May, 2007. I think I cried
more than their parents! I am proud to say that all 18 graduated and 15 are
going on to college or the military. You all have made me so proud!

My mission for our class:

My mission for my children is to provide a fun, safe learning
environment for all learners. I will do my best to reach every child at the
level they are and provide meaningful, multisensory activities and lessons
to enrich learning.
From August through May these are my children and I will love them and
accept them for who they are, just as I do my own.
