The kids will get to ride a wagon back to the pumpkin patch to pick their own pumpkin. I received a grant from the Greater Cincinnati Foundation Learning Links to establish the Everybody Counts program at our school! I am so excited to introduce this program to the kids at North Dearborn. If you haven't heard about it, it is a program that actually lets kids experience disabilities for a day. Every grade level will experience a different disability. This program promotes acceptance and empathy from young children.It involves teachers, parents, and community members. If any of you are already doing this program at your school, please email me and give me some details of how it works at your school. There is a wonderful book titled Have You Filled A Bucket Today by Carol McCloud and Illustrated by David Messing. The book tells children about an invisible bucket that every person carries around with them all day, every day.The purpose of your bucket is to hold your good thoughts and feelings about yourself. You feel good when your bucket is full and sad when it is empty. The children learn that you can fill a bucket when you show love to someone, do something kind, or even when you smile. By doing these nice things for others, you are also filling your own bucket because you feel good when you help others feel good. The book also talks about Bucket Dippers who make others feel bad. We don't want to be Bucket Dippers! Our counselor, Mrs. Hons, will come in each week and help us learn to make good choices so that we can fill our own bucket as well as those around us. If you are looking for a great book to use at home or in the classroom, I can't say enough good things about this one! There is a website dedicated to Bucket Filling that offers a monthly newsletter for teachers and parents.
