Your child will have 1 day for each day that they are absent to complete any homework. I will have homework ready and in the office if you call ahead of time to pick it up. Does my child need to read every night? It is a good practice to start when they are young to read every night. This helps your child become more fluent in their reading and will also help reading comprehension. You may share read (each read a page), your child may read to you or someone or something, or you may read to your child. All of these things will help them to become better readers. Am I suppose to sign my child's agenda? Yes you are to sign your child's agenda each night. This is a way for us to communicate what is happening in our classrom. Agendas are a very important part of our curriculum. We will use them daily and it will come home each night for you to read and sign. It can be an easy communication tool for you to use. It is important for your child to remember to bring it back to school each and everyday. What is the 4 Blocks Balanced Literacy Model? Reading instruction is taught through the 4 Blocks Balanced Literacy model. We have blocks of time for Guided Reading, Self-Selected Reading, Working with Words, and Writing. Children all learn to read in many different ways. We feel at Eisenhower Elementary that this approach will reach all the different ways children learn. During the Guided Reading time we will work on comprehension skills. Self-Selected Reading is just that...the students select what they read and are reading at their on level. This is a time when they can practice the comprehension skills learned in the Guided Reading Block. Working with Words is where we work on Phonics skills. Writing Block is a time many different wiring skills will be introduced along with grammar. What if my child can not go out for recess? We do have two recess each day. Weather permitting these will be outside in the fresh air and sunshine. Coming unprepared for cool or cold weather will not excuse anyone from participating in outside activities. If your child has been sick and needs to stay inside, a note has to be brought from home. How do you contact Mrs. Gotsche? You may contact me at school (793-1501) during the day. I am usually there until at least 4:00. Or you may email me at linda.gotsche@usd428.net What is After School Achievers? After School Achievers is a program Eisenhower began to help those children who may need a little extra help in mastering the state standards for their grade level. It is held on Tuesday and Thursdays from 3:03 to 4:00. If you have other questions on this, please contact your teacher. What if my child arrives at school before 7:50? If your child comes to school for breakfast or arrives before 7:50, they are to report to the gym for supervised time. What to do about birthday celebrations? Second graders love to celebrate their birthdays at school. If you would like to send treats, please let me know. It is usually best just to send the treats with your child in the morning. If your child has a summer birthday, we can plan an unbirthday celebration. What if I want to eat lunch with my child? Please feel free to eat a school lunch with your child. An adult lunch is $3.10 and needs to be paid for that morning. Just notify the office or myself so we can count you on lunch count. What if my child needs to take medication at school? All medicine must be in the prescription bottle and will be kept in the office. You must have a doctor's permission form on file in the school office. This includes inhalers with the exception they may be kept in the classroom. What if my child gets sick at school? If your child becomes ill during the day we will attempt to contact you or your emergency contact people. This is why it is very important that we have updated information at school. What if my child cannot go out for P.E., can he still participate in recess? Recess is as much physical activity as P.E. If you child is unable to participate in PE, she is unable to participate in recess. We will need a note stating the reason she can not take part. |
