VIRTUS - Protecting God's Children Program

VIRTUS TRAINING MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH, 6:30 PM, PARISH HALL

Thank you for working and/or volunteering in our parish. You are required
to attend a VIRTUS Awareness Session if you are an adult who regularly
interacts with our children. Our Protecting God’s Children program for
adults is a three to four hour awareness session that instructs adults of
the Church that to protect children you must have continuous awareness and
vigilance. This awareness session makes trainees understand the signs of
child sexual abuse, the methods and means by which offenders commit abuse
and five empowerment steps one can use to prevent sexual abuse. The VIRTUS
program has been selected by the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas and
meets the guidelines for safe environments as required by the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops. Archbishop Nauman has asked for the
cooperation of all in this important effort.

The following staff and volunteers must take VIRTUS training. Priests,
principals, teachers, DREs, religious education teachers, maintenance
personnel, cafeteria workers, school staff, substitute teachers, student
teachers, nurses, coaches, parish staff, youth ministers, boy scout/girl
scout leaders, day care/early childhood education staff, altar servers
trainers, room mothers, aides, library assistants, field trip aides,
lunchroom monitors, and playground monitors, etc. When in doubt, take the
training.

In order to attend, you must register. Using the Internet, go to
www.virtusonline.org and click on the yellow registration link on the left-
hand side. You will be prompted to complete the form after you have chosen a
User Id and Password. If you have any questions or need assistance you may
contact me.
