SCHOOL COUNCIL MINUTES for October 2, 2008
The following people were in attendance (people in parentheses missed the
meeting)

After an opening prayer led by Mr. Huppe, the meeting was called to order.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT: Mr. Huppe reported that the makeover and
renovation of the library is virtually complete. All classes are now
meeting in the library and checking books out. The dedication will be
during and after the all-school Mass on Friday, October 17, 2008.
Mr. Huppe consulted the council and received a recommendation regarding
appropriateness of the book A Lesson before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines being
removed for the eighth grade classes. The new book selection that the
students are reading is To Kill a Mockingbird.
Another area of discussion is the use of electronic devices and the texting,
emailing and instant messaging on campus. As stated in the school handbook,
the use of these electronic devices is not allowed during school hours
inside or outside St. Ann campus. Mr. Huppe is visiting with students,
teachers, parents and the Prairie Village Police regarding recent messaging
brought to his attention by several students and parents of eighth graders.
Other items discussed at the meeting:
Sub-Committee Positions ~ Council members are asked to think about working
on either the Council recruitment or School Survey Sub-Committees. Please
come to the next meeting with the committee you wish to support. (Cindy,
Leslie, Mary, Amy, John, Katie) There will be three positions up for
election for the 2009-2010 school year.
Parking lot dysfunction ~ The parking lot is a constant problem. Discussion
started regarding possible ways to ensure the safety of our children by
putting more patrol people out there; modifying traffic flow, etc. The
parents need to follow the guidelines as stated in the handbook…..more
discussion will continue at the next meeting.
TEACHER’S REPORT: Ann Kratofil said that MAP testing is completed and the
results have been mailed to the parents. The teacher’s in-service day on
Monday, October 13, will include meeting with other grade level teachers
from John Paul II and St. Agnes.
PTO: Sarah Grunhard said the fall fundraiser was a success. She also
mentioned that many families took advantage of the “opt out” program.
There will be a December meeting however the January meeting is cancelled
unless the principal requests it.
Cindy said the closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned.
