Second graders are expected to read nightly for approx. 20 minutes.
It's very important that students read, and are read to at home. As a way
to verify this nightly reading, each month we will pass out a book report to
be passed in at the end of the month. Look for a reading calendar
and book report in your child's purple folder on the 1st or 2nd day of the
month. Remember, it's always a good idea to set up a safe keeping place for
the reading calendar (ie. on the refrigerator)so your student knows where to
find the calendar when the end of the month nears.
In addition to this nightly reading requirement, students will be given
approximatlely 20 minutes of written homework Monday through Thursday.
Generally this written homework will be a review sheet of the daily math
concept, and also a spelling packet to help students practice their weekly
spelling words. Homework will be sent home in purple folders, and students
will record this homework each day in their agendas. Students should bring
homework to school in the purple folder and pass it in daily. Homework will
not be graded. Homework will be checked for quality and effort. If your
child struggles significantly with any nightly assignment, please just jot
me a note and I will work independently with your child during our morning
routine to clarify or review any concept.
