The mission of the English/Language Arts department is to provide a
challenging curriculum that enables students to read, write, speak, and think
critically, and with personal investment. Our goal is to teach learners how to
reason and use language purposefully as they comprehend, construct, and convey
meaning throughout their lives.
The mission of the Social Studies department is to provide a challenging
curriculum comprised of the four disciplines of history, geography, economics,
and civics and government. In kindergarten through fifth grade, the emphasis
is on U.S. history and geography, from an understanding of neighborhood and
community to a study of colonial America and the early republic. In sixth
grade, the emphasis is on world geography and culture. Our goal is to present
content, concepts, and skills that are essential to the study of democracy and
to the development of educated and responsible citizens.
