PRACTICE SUGGESTIONS

Practice Does Not Make Perfect. Only Perfect Practice Makes Perfect.

When you practice alone you are your only critic. You need to practice
using good habits and work to achieve quality music. Listen to yourself
and practice using a good tone with lots of breath support.

Regular Daily Practice is important in order to achieve success on a
band instrument. How much you practice depends on each individual.

For some, practicing 15 minutes a day is sufficient for learning new
material and keeping their skills sharp.

For other students, 30 minutes or more might be appropriate. This
would be the case for those students who have fallen behind in their
achievement level, or, for those students who aspire to a greater goal
on their instrument.

Students in grades 7, 8, 11, and 12 will be rehearsing/practicing during
school band rehearsals four times each week for one hour each
practice. Students in these grades should practice at home on at least
three additional days.

Students in grades 9 and 10 will be rehearsing/practicing during school
band rehearsals two times each week for one hour. Students in these
grades should practice at home on at least five additional days.

Some of our students audition for Western District Band, Orchestra or
Jazz Band in grades 7 - 12. If this is one of your goals you should try to
develop good practice habits by practicing at least 30 minutes at home,
every day, when possible.

Remember, like everything in life, the more time you put into something,
the more you get out of it. The more time you practice means the better
you will sound and the better you will play.

You will enjoy your instrument so much more!
