What are steps in the immigration process? Why should we study other cultures? How is India connected 
to the US? How do cultures found in India, East Asia and Portland, Maine effect our day to day lives?
 
Why is Where important?  What is your dream destination?

December: 

Government & Economic Systems
 
What purposes are served by government? Is there a need for government? What is power? What forms 
does it take? Do we need laws? Does the diversity of government & economic systems make the world a 
better place? 

January/February

Maine Studies

Is Maine the way life should be?  How are laws made in the state of Maine? How will the changing face of 
Maine impact our state? Community service follow up

March/ April

Exploring East Asia

How do I learn and teach others? Why should we study other cultures?, Who are the Heroes in a culture? 
What are significant symbols and icons?

May / June
Forces of Conflict & Cooperation- Middle East Area Studies

Who are the bullies?  Why do people fight? Is conflict inevitable? What's right? What is 
worth fighting for? Who are the Heroes in a culture? What are significant symbols and icons?



Global Studies 2009-2010   Grading Policy - point system

1.Work Habits efforts //Preparation to learn
 	A. Bring to class:
		*planner		*binder/notebook			*writing utensils
		*atlas		*laptop computer			        *class handouts
	
        B. Taking responsibility for absent work

2. Personal Contributions & Respectful Behavior

	A. Alert & active in class wide discussions and activities
	B. Effective member of groups
	C. Striving to complete your best quality work
	D. Treats others with respect
        E. Following directions & solving problems
	F. Maintains pride & service in room
        G. Arrive to class on time 
        H. Meets Deadlines
                                                               Consequences for late work: 
		                                               Homework- 0 (1/2 credit within 24 hours)
		                                               Long-term projects-loss of 10 points on Work Habit grade
	

3. Homework efforts 
     Homework is due on date assigned at beginning of class
      Include name, date, and class
 These assignments may be scored in various ways depending on task
		<> Checked for completion in class
		<> Collected and teacher feedback provided -scored on point value
