Character lesson for this week: When making a phone call, introduce yourself first and then ask for the person you are calling. On this day in History… In 1707, Swedish botanist Carolus Linnaeus was born. He created the system for defining genus and species of plants and animals used worldwide. In 1788, South Carolina became the eighth state to enter the Union by ratifying the U.S. Constitution. And in 1934, bank robbers Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were caught and killed in a police ambush in rural Louisiana. Lunch & Learn is 8th grade today. 7th grade fundraiser items should be distributed as quickly as possible and collected money turned in no later than Tuesday, May 28th. Weather permitting, the 7th grade raft trip will be next Friday. Eighth graders with student council petitions should return them to Mrs. Garver TODAY. There is no school tomorrow or Monday for Memorial Weekend. June 5 and 6 are half days with a dismissal time of 11:05. Any student interested in taking driver's training this summer, Mr. Barnum will be offering a class June 10-25th. You must be 14 and 8 months to take the course. Athletic announcements: Track Lake Charlevoix Cup with East Jordan and Boyne City in EJ on Tuesday 4:00, students dismissed at 2:50. Only three 8th graders signed up so far for high school cross country, come sign up today! Hey CMS! The girls varsity soccer team has their biggest game of the season TONIGHT as they play host to Harbor Springs. This game is so B-I-G that it had to be moved to Kipke Field! Game will start at 7:00. Get there early for a world cup walk out at 6:45. All Roudy Rayders must attend!! Come on out and support our girls to victory! Sports Physicals for Student/Athletes for the 2013-2014 School Year will be held next week on Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the High School. This is for CURRENT 4th through 11th graders. Please pick up a violet-colored physical form from the middle or high school office for parents to fill out beforehand and bring with you on May 29 with your $10 fee. Physicals MUST be signed in advance by parent in order for the doctor to see student. Take advantage of this opportunity to be set for any school sports you may want to participate in next school year! ATTENTION 8th GRADERS PLAYING HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL IN THE FALL: Fitting of football helmets will take place during the night of player physicals on Wednesday, May 29 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Check the office periodically through the end of the year for summer opportunities.
