We all made it through our first week of first grade! Our classroom is looking great! This week we will attend Mass as a whole school. This Mass will be on Wednesday at 1:30. All are welcome to come and join in! Our first fieldtrip can be put on the calendar. We will be going to the Children’s Theater to see Peter Pan. Please watch for more information and permission slips to come home. We are able to take one parent with, if interested please let me know.

Next Week In

Reading: We will focus on the word families -at, -an. We will work in small reading groups with this material as well as stories. Please take time to review beginning sounds with your child at home.

Religion: We will focus on Our Church Community. We will learn about what it means to belong to Jesus’ church. We also focus on the sign of the cross as a prayer. We will attend Mass on Wednesday at 1:30.

Math: We will review number formation and what it means to have the fewest and the most.

Spelling: We will take a look at –at and –an words. We will have a practice spelling test. No need to study any words at home. This first week of spelling I like to use as an in class activity to show there is no need to worry about “tests”.

Social Studies: We will discuss families. Please send in a photo of your family for your child to share and hang up.

Science: We will start our unit on Matter. We will look at solids, liquids, and gas.

Class Photo: Attached please find our class pictures. These are from kindergarten but I thought it would be a great way for all of us to learn our new classmates’ names and faces.
