Greetings,
I am happy to announce that this is my seventh year at St. Ambrose and my
sixteenth year of teaching. I am here Tues.-Fri. and at St. Matt's on
Mondays. I have two children both in college and two dogs. In my spare time
I study for classes in my master's program. Graduation is December 21st,
yahoo! I was born and raised in St. Paul but have lived in Iowa,
Nebraska, Texas, and Arizona thanks to my husbands career. I am very content
to be back home and feel blessed to be able to experience the St. Ambrose
community.
The mission for my classroom is to support Catholic social teachings through
studio art projects within my art classroom.
I am interested in exploring this topic in my classroom because I think that
it will be a wonderful way to connect art to my student’s faith. I know that
artistic expression has been used throughout history to focus on political
concerns such as gender and sexuality, race and ethnicity, power and
equality. I would like to explore creative opportunities that will allow my
students to dialogue and challenge social justice issues through art.
I hope that though my project students will learn to use art as an
expression of themselves and a symbol of justice. I hope that they will
develop an understanding and awareness of justice issues locally and globally
and how they can help meet the needs of local social justice agencies. I
want my students to make a personal commitment to justice issues that they
feel passionate about. It is my hope that my students will develop and
honorable and fair attitude toward equality based on the principles of social
justice and that they can be agents of change to help transform their world.
