Will there be homework in the first grade?
Homework will not be given on a regular basis. Your child should read each
night and study spelling words. You could also encourage working on adding
and subtracting through 10. If your child does not finish his work
during the day, he may be asked to take it home to finish.
What can I do with my child at home to help him succeed in first grade?
To help your child succeed in first grade, you can help him study spelling
words, practice counting, write, read, and help him learn to be responsible
and independent.
How do I ensure money I send to school reaches its destination?
To ensure money reaches its destination, place it in an envelope with your
child's name, grade level, teacher's name, and purpose.
When can I come and help in the classroom?
I will be looking for volunteers to help in and around the classroom
beginning in October. All volunteers will be required to have a background
check, Virtus training and code of conduct signed, prior to working with the
children.
Do I need to return my spelling list from Friday?
Your spelling list does not need to be returned each week. It should stay
home so that it can be used for studying.
Should I walk my student into the classroom each day?
No, your child should be walking to the classroom by himself. He will learn
to put his belongings away, empty his backpack, and begin working right away.
Do we celebrate birthdays in first grade?
We do celebrate birthdays. You are welcome to send a wrapped birthday treat
if you wish.
We will celebrate half birthdays for those who were lucky
enough to be born in the summer.
Will we go on field trips?
Yes, we have several field trips planned for both inside and outside of the
school building.
