I am so excited to return to Codington for my 32nd year of teaching. I
began my career in Brunswick County Schools teaching Trainable Handicapped
Students. I had just graduated from UNC-CH with a degree in Mental
Retardation when I was given the chance to start a program for TMH students
at Leland Middle School. After several wonderful years there teaching TMH,
and eventually reading and math resource, I transferred to Lincoln Primary
School to work with younger special needs children. As I taught, I worked on
my Masters in Elementary Education. With this degree, I was able to teach in
a regular class setting while still serving my special needs children. Not
being one to sit still, I worked to obtain my Academically Gifted
Certificate so I could better meet the needs of all students. I remained at
Lincoln until the 3rd grade moved to the new Belville Elementary School.
There, I taught 4th and 5th grades as well as teaching some science and
gifted classes. Wanting to be in the same county as my daughters, I
transferred to Pine Valley Elementary School where I taught 4th or 5th grades
for 6 years. I am thrilled to have been given the chance to work at Codington
where Multiple Intelligences is an emphasis. As a final note, my latest
educational goal was recently met when I achieved my National Boards status
in 2001. Wow, what an experience! And who said one ever stops learning?
Our mission is to become independent learners who are excited at the
prospect of learning new things. We hope to be learners who ask questions
and then seek the answers to our questions.
