This nine weeks in music classes we are learning the hello song, "Sorida,"
from Zimbabwe, Africa. Students are learning different ways to greet people
using music, including the "Good Mornin' Song."
Music students in all grades are learning to read music from the treble
clef staff and to read rhythms using eighth notes, quarter notes, half
notes, quarter rests, and half rests. Various patterns are used
depending on the grade level.
Friday repeat music classes are working on basic piano skills.
Students are identifying black keys in groups of 2's and 3's. They are
also spelling words using the note names A, B, C, D, E, F, or G. Words
like BAD, DAD, EGG, and CAFE by playing them on the keyboards.
Students are also improvising and making up their own simple tunes
using a minimum of eight pitches.
