Hello Cougar Families,
I move my school home to Codington this year with 27 years experience
in Special Education. I previously taught middle school for five years,
high school for eleven years, and elementary school for the past eleven
years. I received my Bachelor of Science in Special Education in 1981 and
my Master of Arts in Education in 1985. My most recent accomplishment was
selection as a 2008 North Carolina Finalist for the NCAE Terry Sanford
Award for Creativity and Innovation in Teaching and Administration.
     Current certifications include:
*National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, Early Childhood Through
Young Adulthood/Exceptional Needs Specialist, Mild/Moderate Disabilities
(ages 5-21); 2005
*Mentor Teacher
*Intermediate Education (Grades 4-6)
*Elementary Education (Grades K-6)
*Middle Grades Language Arts (6-9), Highly Qualified
*Middle Grades Social Studies (6-9), Highly Qualified
*Mentally Handicapped (Grades K-12), Highly Qualified
*Behaviorally/Emotionally Handicapped (K-12), Highly Qualified
*Learning Disabled (K-12),Highly Qualified
In addition, I have attended several trainings (2004-2008)at The Hill
Center in Durham, NC, (visit www.HillCenter.org) and utilize best teaching
practices learned in their research-based methodology.
     I am married to David Pridgen.  We have three children (Lee, age 27;
John, age 23; and Kali, age 17). Lee and his wife, Sarah, have blessed us
with three grandchildren (Addison, age 8; Ian, age 4; and Lyra, age 6
months.) Our black lab, Macy, and cat, Sophie, add to the mix.
There are numerous causes close to my heart. One is disaster relief and
I was fortunate enough to be a member of the first organized volunteer group
in Biloxi, Mississippi, following Hurricane Katrina. I was also an organ
(kidney) donor in 2007 through the Duke University Organ Transplant
Program. Annual participation in Special Olympics Polar Plunge and
American Cancer Society's Relay for Life are priorities, as well.
Now my newest "cause" is the use of my experiences and knowledge to
educate my students at Codington. It is with great pleasure that I
transition into a school with dedicated staff and tremendous parent
involvement. I look forward to being a member of the Cougar team and a
great 2008-09 school year!
