Kindergarten Third Quarter Objectives

Receptive Literacy

Demonstrates understanding that sequence of letters in a written word represents the sequence of
sounds in the spoken word
Blends individual sounds that are heard into a 2-3 phoneme word (e.g. Put the sounds /c/ /a/ /t/
together. Now say the word.)
Segments the sounds of a spoken 2-3 phoneme word into individual phonemes or sounds (e.g. What
sounds do you hear in the word dog?
/d//o/ /g/)
Recognizes some high frequency words by sight (10-15 words)
Reads decodable text

Before Reading
Formulates questions that a text might answer before beginning to read
Uses preparation strategies to activate prior knowledge and experience before reading the text
During Reading
Associates target words with prior knowledge.
Reads predictable text using letter-sound knowledge and pictures to construct meaning (Level 3-4)
