I have 27 years of experience as a teacher. I taught 1st grade for 8 years
and 4th and 5th grade reading and math for 2 years. I have been teaching
kindergarten since 1991. I was born and raised in Maxton, North Carolina.
It is near Lumberton, North Carolina. I grew up on a farm and I am youngest
of 10 children in my family. I graduated from UNC-Pembroke which was
formally know as Pembroke University, where I received my undergraduate
degree in education. I was married in 1980 and moved to Sumter, South
Carolina to start my first teaching position. I received my graduate degree
at the University of South Carolina in early childhood and I received my
National Board in 2001 in early childhood. I have 2 girls. One is a
freshman at UNC-Pembroke and the other is a 6th grader at Wake Forest
Rolesville Middle School. I have a wonderful family and a great husband of
27 years. He has been very supportive in my many years of teaching.
Kindergarten is an exciting and wondrous time, full of new and meaningful
experiences! The children in my classroom are busy learning and
experimenting from the moment they arrive in the morning until they leave in
the afternoon. I use a "hands on" approach in my classroom which I believe
is the best way for children to learn-learn by doing!
My children are consontantly presented with opportunties to explore in areas
such as math science, art social studies and language arts. Kindergarten is
vital in helping to create a strong foundation for children as they begin
their education. I am very honored and priviledged to be a kindergarten
teacher. I find great joy in teaching and look forward to the next group of
new friends.
