About The Teacher

	Mrs. Fishbein resides in Park Ridge, New Jersey with her husband of 
twenty-two years and four children ranging in age from thirteen to twenty. She
began her college education at St. John's University in New York, and after
moving to New Jersey became a magna cum laude graduate of William Paterson
University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, specializing in Child
Psychology. At the same time, she received her N-8 Teaching Certification
studying under Dr. Anthony Coletta. She received her Masters of Education
Degree in Literacy at Long Island University, which also awarded her a Reading
Specialist Certificate in the state of New Jersey. Presently, she is enrolled
at Fairleigh Dickinson University for a post-masters certification as a Math
Education Specialist.
	Mrs. Fishbein's list of honors includes Pi Lambda Theta Honor Society in
Education, Alpha Epsilon Alpha Honor Society in Language Arts, Kappa Delta 
Pi Honor Society in Education,and Psi Chi Honor Society in Psychology. She is
also a member of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New Jersey,
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, International Reading
Association, New Jersey Education Association and the National Education
Association.
	Mrs. Fishbein's extensive experience includes working as a Preschool 
Teacher in Wayne and Park Ridge, New Jersey. She was a substitute teacher in
Ho-Ho-Kus K-8 Public School with experience at every grade level. She then
became a student teacher in first, second, and third grades in Flushing, New
York, and Garfield, Fair Lawn, and Ho-Ho-Kus. Most recently, she taught fourth
grade for 7 years at Haworth Public School, and is now teaching 6th grade and
Pre-Algebra in their Middle School.
	Mrs. Fishbein is an avid long distance runner and a NYC Marathon 
Finisher. Don't forget to wave if you see her running by as you may see her
training for a local race.

Educational Philosophy

        I have found teaching has made me a better parent and parenting has 
made me a better teacher. My children are my biggest accomplishments and I 
am their biggest fan.  It was within my own children's learning differences 
that I realized that if siblings could be so different in their learning
styles then the students in my classroom, who are not related, will have 
even more differences.  It made me understand that we must reach the 
individual needs of every student.
         I have developed a wide range of differentiation strategies over the
years and have incorporated those strategies into various teaching methods.
I facilitate learning by using authentic activities that relate to real-world
tasks, so that when students see the purpose and meaning in the work they do,
they understand why it is important to do it.  My classroom is also learner
centered in that the students are actively involved in the learning process by
accepting such responsibilities as making choices, taking part in negotiating
decisions regarding procedures and self-evaluation.  This way the classroom
environment is supportive and free from the risks that inhibit the honest
expression that promotes learning. 
         It is with this philosophy that I believe I can help children reach 
their full potential both emotionally and cognitively.
