Accreditation Goals and Strategies for 2008-2011

Goal 1: By June 2011, using the Stieglitz Informal Reading Inventory (comprehension and accuracy), the number of grade 8 students reading at an instructional level (or above) will have increased by 10% from the baselines recorded in grade 6.

Strategy 1: We will develop a school-wide system of assessing student reading in the areas of accuracy and comprehension

Strategy 2: We will review and analyze student reading results twice yearly.

Strategy 3: We will establish consistently scheduled school-wide reading periods.

Strategy 4: We will explore and investigate instructional strategies and best practices for teaching reading across the curriculum.

Goal 2: By June 2011, 80% of grade 6, 7, and 8 students will indicate that the school is a positive learning environment where they feel safe and are treated fairly, on an annually administered survey.

Strategy 1: We will review and communicate behaviour expectations from the ARRA R.O.L.E.S. matrix among staff, students, and parents/guardians.

Strategy 2: Among staff, we will review and communicate expectations and guidelines from the DOE and AVRSB concerning student behaviour and code of conduct.

Strategy 3: We will implement PEBS.

Strategy 4: We will explicitly teach student behavioural expectations throughout the year.

Strategy 5: We will revise and modify a school-wide tracking and reporting system to document student behaviour.

Strategy 6: We will provide recognition, praise, and reinforcement to students for their safe, positive, and appropriate behaviour.

Strategy 7: We will utilize daily school announcements as a vehicle to raise school spirit and recognize student achievement and behaviour.

Strategy 8: We will establish a committee of students and staff who will suggest strategies to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.

Strategy 9: We will survey students regarding perceptions of safety and fair treatment in the Spring of each year.
