What are the expectations in Honors Biology?

 The requirements are as follows:
1) An average of 85 must be maintained consistently throughout
the year.
2) All homework, class work, lab work and projects must be handed
in on time
and of high quality.
3) Lab work must be of high quality.
4) All written work should be of high caliber and neat.
5) Some required work must be typed (computers are available at
school, if
necessary).
6) Project work will be assigned throughout the year and must be
completed
following the directions given.
7) Attendance is imperative to success, so excessive absences
should be
avoided whenever possible. Lateness to class, without a pass, is
unacceptable.
8) Students must conduct themselves in an appropriate, mature
manner and
must never infringe on the ability of others to learn.

These are the requirements that must be met in order for you to
succeed and
remain in Honors Biology. If you have any questions, comments or
concerns,
please do not hesitate to call me at the school.

What happens if the above requirements are not met?

At ten weeks, if a student is not meeting any of the above
requirements, a
parent conference will be required and at that time it will be
determined as
to whether or not the student should be moved out of honors
biology and into
a regents level course or whether or not the student will be
given more
opportunity to prove that they belong in an honors course.

What is the difference between regents biology and honors biology?

The main goal of regents biology is to introduce students to the
major
concepts in biology and to prepare the srudents for the N.Y.
State regents
exam.
The honors curriculum is aligned, not only with the state
standards, but
also is an attempt to prepare students for success in AP biology
or freshman
level college biology. Therefore the material, although the same
topics,
are examined in more depth. The expectations are also much
greater. The
work (homework, lab work & project work) submitted in honors
biology is
expected to be of superior quality. The labs & projects assigned
are more
challenging then that which may be assigned in a regents class.
