Abolitionist- a person seeking legal end to slavery
Affirmative Action-steps taken to increase the representation of women and
minorities in employment and education.
Amendment-a change or addition to the constitution
Anti-federalist-person who opposed the Constitution during ratification
Antitrust-anti monopoly
Article of Confederation-first American Constitution
Assimilation- process of part of another culture
Atomic Age- term used to describe period after 1st atomic bombs used 1945
Baby Boom- rapid population growth after WW@ 1946-1964
Belligerents- nations fighting a war
Bi-Cameral legislature- two house legislature
Bill- proposed law
Bill of Rights- 1st ten amendments of the Constitution
Bi-partisan- supported by two political parties
Black List- list of workers that employers will not hire
Blockade- shutting down of a port to stop trade
Blue collar worker- someone who has a factory or industrial job
Boycott- organized refusal to bur or use a product
Brinkmanship- policy, during 1950's, of being willing to go to edge of war to
prevent war.
Bureaucracy- all workers who run agencies that do everyday business of
government.
Cabinet- group of officials who advise the President.
