This year I am sending home Reading and Math packets. Please realize each
of these sheets will take 5-10 minutes of your time and they will reinforce
basic skills your kindergartner is responsible to learn.
The homework pages can be found in your child's take home folder stapled
together. Please only complete one page a week unless your child gets
ambitious. If s/he wants to do more encourage it, but please do not force
it. I want him/her to enjoy learning and what it has to offer. You can
complete the page anytime during the week. If you forget one week please
feel free to catch up or keep moving on. I do not want to discourage you
with paperwork which is why I chose basic pages that should not take too
long.
We will be working on predecodable books during the first half of the year.
These books have picture rebuses.
Your last bit of homework with your child will be to read, and reread the
predecodable and eventually decodable books that will be sent home after
they are read to me 3 times. The predecodable books focus on the sight
words your child must know by time s/he leaves kindergarten because in first
grade they will need to learn over 100 words. The decodable books will
start coming in January and they focus on sounding words out. Keep these
books in a safe place at home and pull them out throughout the year to
review. It will only help your child learn to read more fluently.
