A New Kind of Takehome Book!
I am happy to hear and see so many families reading at home. I can always
tell by the sight words the kids recognize quickly. Good work!
Very soon the books will become DECODABLE. The primary purpose of these
books is to practice letter sounds and blending skills.
I will be sending home a “lesson” for using these books. Please continue
reading the PREDECODALE books to help commit those sight words and create
FLUENCY in reading!
And please remember that you can and will want to read more than one book
a night!
‘Tis the Season...
...to give of ourselves. So this month we will be
collecting change for the Friends of Strays in the city of Salamanca. This is
a group of people who work hard to find homes for stray cats and dogs. This
being a challenging task, they must care for these animals until a home is
found. To help, ask that whenever you pocket a little change from paying for
something, you send it to school with your kindgarten student to help these
animals without homes.
We recently read a book called, “Don’t Need Friends.” It takes place in a
junkyard where the main characters—a rat and a dog– make friends by sharing
the scraps of food they find to eat. The children were concerned that the
animals in this story had no people to care for them. It is this compassion
and generous spirit that make us human.
This month we hope you will send in a few pockets of spare change. Thank
you for supporting the kids in this work!
No Gift Exchange
Because we would rather have the students give to Friends of Strays, we
will not have a gift exchange in our classroom. I have bought and wrapped
gifts for all the kids for the Christmas party. These will be enough for all.
So once again, do not buy a gift for a gift exchange.
