Internet Safety Practice

As teachers and parents, we are all concerned for the safety of our
children. With technology and the WEB becoming an integral part of our
children's day and learning experience, we make safety in Internet usage a
top priority.

Parents and teachers, when your children are required to complete research
for a project, there are several ways to insure that the material they find
is of safe content. May I suggest the following practices to help in this
matter:
    1. Research ahead of time and select appropriate sites that contain the
information that your students will be needing. Bookmark these sites for
student use so that they will be better directed in their research
    2. Allow students to use search engines that have been designed for
children and are filtered for inappropriate content.
    3. http://www.tekmom.com is a WEB site that contains many child safe
search engine links. Some of them specialized for Science, History and
Images.
    4. On home computers, check your search engines for "inappropriate
content" filters and apply them. For example, Google allows users to set
filters on the content that will be appropriated.
